CAREER
OPPORTUNITIES
If you are unsure which direction your studies should take, you are
not alone. Many College of DuPage students begin attending the college
while either undecided about their major or with multiple interests.
Your active involvement in making academic and career decisions is important.
As part of your decision-making process, gather information about yourself, explore
various educational and career options, and seek career counseling with a counselor
while you attend College of DuPage.
College of DuPage's general education requirements offer a broad selection
of course choices for an undecided student. For example, a student interested
in psychology can enroll in an introductory psychology course to learn
more about that area and fulfill part of the General Education requirement
at the same time. Several specific courses, described in Program Note
3, are designed for career exploration.
If you are undecided about what area to major in and where to transfer, courses
chosen from this guide would transfer to most baccalaureate-granting schools.
Although schools vary as to the number of courses or hours needed, these guidelines
represent the courses likely to be required for general education. Because this
is only a guide, students should review the general requirements in various private
or public transfer institution catalogs.
Some schools accept the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree
as meeting their general education requirements on transfer.
Once you decide on a major, refer to the appropriate Transfer Program Guide for
that interest area. When you decide on an interest area and a transfer school,
obtain that institution's current catalog and refer to it for general education
and program requirements in your major. Consult with a College of DuPage faculty
adviser and an admissions representative at the transfer school about your preparation
at College of DuPage. |

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
This Undeclared Major program guide is based on an associate in arts (A.A.)
degree. Students with an interest in science or mathematics may wish to
work toward an associate in science (A.S.) degree. Both degrees prepare
students for transfer to a baccalaureate-granting school. It is definitely
to your advantage to make a decision about your major career direction
so you can coordinate your course work with the requirements of a transfer
institution. Failure to declare a major could extend the amount of time
spent in completing your baccalaureate degree.
Students who earn an associate in arts degree at College of DuPage may
transfer credits to baccalaureate-granting schools. This guide helps students
plan their first term at College of DuPage.
Refer to the College of DuPage Catalog that was in effect at the
time of your original enrollment (unless you have not been enrolled for
more than three consecutive terms) for degree requirements, course descriptions
and academic regulations. Catalogs are available in
Counseling and Advising Services, SRC 2044, and in the
Admissions and Information office, SRC 2046.
Meet with one of the counselors to discuss which courses to take, especially
if you are undeclared or uncertain about your field of interest or planning
to transfer to a baccalaureate-granting institution. Contact information
for counselors is listed in the above paragraph. Consult Counseling
and Advising Services, SRC 2044, to obtain a copy of requirements
detailed in the Student
Planning Worksheet, which is also available on the web site.
Degree audits detailing courses you have completed and courses yet to
be taken to satisfy your degree or certificate requirements may be requested
from the Records
office, SRC 2015.
