CAREER
OPPORTUNITIES
Music performance and education offer various employment opportunities
in the private and public sectors. A professional musician with business
skills and musical versatility can make a career out of performance
and related activities, such as composing, arranging and applied instruction.
Music education in the public school system requires a bachelor's degree
and state certification; many public school teachers pursue a master's
degree. For most college teaching positions, the master's degree is
a minimum, with a doctorate (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) preferred at many institutions.
The Music program at College of DuPage offers the first two years of a
baccalaureate music degree program, including musicianship sequences on
theory and ear training.
In addition, a sequence of four class piano courses designed for non-pianists
and applied lessons on most instruments are offered to aspiring music
majors. Performing groups include the New Philharmonic, Concert Choir,
Jazz Choir, Chamber Singers, Community Jazz Ensemble, DuPage Chorale,
DuPage Community Band, Chamber Orchestra, New Classic Singers, Arts Center
Jazz Ensemble, Small Group Jazz, Percussion Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble.

IAI
MAJORS
When students transfer to baccalaureate-granting schools, acceptance
of major C.O.D. courses by those schools is contingent on the Illinois
Articulation Initiative (IAI) Majors. Transferability of listed courses
varies among institutions. For the latest majors recommendations information,
check the iTransfer web site at www.itransfer.org.
College of DuPage A.A. and A.S. degrees are IAI compliant. The A.F.A.
does not meet the IAI General Education Core Curriculum. Students who
want to meet this should pursue a degree that's not performance-oriented.
Students who have taken 35 or more credits may request the IAI General
Education Core Curriculum audit from the Records office, SRC 2015. |
