CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The Art program at College of DuPage provides a variety of courses that serve as a foundation for continuing art study at a baccalaureate-granting school, for meeting the Humanities or International Studies General Education requirements for an associate's degree, or for personal enrichment. These courses may be the first step toward a career in free-lance art work, art teaching, art criticism, curator, art gallery direction, museum work, or design and illustration.

Potential art transfer degree-seeking students should take the period courses in art history, Art 2211, 2212 and 2213, and the studio sequences of Art 1101 and 1102 (Drawing) and Art 1151 and 1152 (Design). The college also offers a variety of other advanced studio courses including life drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, fiber arts, book arts, jewelry/metals, printmaking, papermaking and computer art. For transfer under IAI, these sequences should be started and completed at College of DuPage.

Students not majoring in art who are interested in a lecture-based approach to the principles, processes and history of art may select Art 1100, Introduction to the Visual Arts, a course that satisfies degree requirements. Those who are interested in an introduction to working with studio art materials may select Art 1105, Introduction to Studio Art, or any of the other studio art sequences.

The William E. Gahlberg Gallery, located in the McAninch Arts Center, regularly provides the college community with education-oriented art exhibits featuring local and national artists. Each spring a show is devoted to the work of College of DuPage students. The Student-Run Art Gallery, Wings, in SRC 1540 offers periodic displays of student artwork.

IAI MAJORS
When students transfer to baccalaureate degree-granting schools, acceptance of major C.O.D. courses by those schools is contingent on the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) majors. Transferability of listed courses varies among institutions. Always seek the advice of a C.O.D. academic adviser (see list in this program guide) or admissions counselor at either C.O.D. or the transfer institution when making transfer plans. For the latest Majors recommendations information, check the iTransfer web site at www.itransfer.org.

College of DuPage Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.) and A.F.A. degrees are all approved degrees under IAI. The A.A. and A.S. degrees fulfill the IAI General Education Core Curriculum requirements. The A.F.A. degree fulfills major-program course requirements but only the portion of the General Education Core Curriculum ordinarily taken during the first two years of a B.F.A. program. Students who have taken 35 or more credits may request the IAI General Education Core Curriculum audit from the Records office, SRC 2015.
