Automotive Service Technology

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Qualified automotive service technicians are in demand in the 21st century. Consumers are looking for technicians who will fix the problem the first time. Shop owners search for technicians who can keep up with the growing complexity of the automobile.

A technician's job is demanding. Good hand-eye coordination, mechanical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and mathematics and electrical skills are necessary for a student to achieve success in this field.

The Automotive Service Technology program at College of DuPage offers a certificate and an associate degree that prepare graduates to enter the work force as entry-level technicians. Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certification is also recommended to enhance employability.

The program offers economical costs; hands-on training; credit for what you know; flexible class scheduling; current technology, both foreign and domestic; job placement service; classes arranged by subject matter; and helpful faculty advisers to answer your questions.

Technician training can lead to other career paths in the automotive field, such as service writer and parts personnel.

Corporate level, service-related occupations are available for those students who transfer to baccalaureate degree programs.
