The Orwell Symposium

The C.O.D. Orwell Symposium will encourage faculty across campus to include Orwell’s 1984 in their classes. The symposium will also feature a series of Teaching and Learning Center workshops. Additionally, C.O.D. will host prominent speakers Christopher Hitchens (October 27) and Phillip Wegner (November 18), each of whom will address Orwell’s relevance to our contemporary world. The symposium will culminate with a day of presentations and displays showcasing students’ creative and scholarly work (December 1-2).

Why 1984 by George Orwell Matters
Published in 1949, George Orwell’s 1984 remains vitally important in 2004. Orwell’s harrowing account of a possible future continues to fascinate and challenge readers, and the questions it raises about civil liberties, human rights, and war are more relevant than ever. Join faculty from across the college for an in-depth discussion of 1984. Details
